Dr. Teresa Snorton
Rev. Snorton is the Executive Director of the national Association
for Clinical Pastoral Education, Inc., an accrediting and certifying agency for
programs of Clinical Pastoral Education. She began at ACPE in February 2000. She
is the former Executive Director of Clinical Services and Administration at the
Emory Center for Pastoral Services in Atlanta, Georgia and the Director of Pastoral
Services at Crawford Long Hospital. She has been adjunct instructor in Pastoral
Care at Candler School of Theology at Emory University since 1991.
She is an ordained minister in the Christian Methodist Episcopal Church and was
a former pastor in Kentucky. Prior to moving to Atlanta, she was a Psychiatric
Staff Chaplain, on the adjunct faculty of the Louisville Presbyterian Theological
Seminary in Kentucky, an instructor in the Patient Counseling Program at the Medical
College of Virginia and an instructor of Pastoral Care at the School of Theology
of Virginia Union University in Richmond.
Rev. Snorton has a B.A. degree from Vanderbilt University, a Master
of Divinity degree from Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, a Master
of Theology in Pastoral Care from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, a Post-Graduate
Certificate in Patient Counseling from Virginia Commonwealth University, and the
Doctor of Ministry degree from United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio.
Rev. Snorton is active in several boards and committees of the
Christian Methodist Episcopal Church. She is a member of the Coordinating Council
of the International Congress of Pastoral Care and Counseling, a member of the
Society for Pastoral Theology, and Business Manager of the Journal of Pastoral
Care. She has been a member of the Board of Directors of the St. Luke's Training
and Counseling Center and of the Atlanta Interfaith AIDS Network and the editorial
board of the Journal of Pastoral Theology.
In the Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, Rev. Snorton has been a member
of national Board of Directors, Chair of the Racial, Ethnic Multicultural Network,
Chair of the Southeast Regional Peer Review Committee, and a member of the Professional
Ethics Commission. She is frequently a consultant and guest speaker and preacher
for churches, hospitals, seminaries and conferences on multicultural, ethical
and gender issues in health care, pastoral care and education. She is the author
of several articles, chapters and books reviews on topics related to pastoral
care and ministry.
Rev. Snorton has two sons, Garland and Gary.
