Friends of the Institute
The Oates Institute is a 501(c)3 educational non-profit organization providing needed continuing education for those providing pastoral and spiritual care to those in need, many of whom are limited in the resources they have available for it. We are also providing training resources to help congregations and overworked pastors with congregational care programs.
To do this, we depend on the support of friends who want to join us in making a difference in the provision of holistic spiritual care.
We are deeply grateful for the many friends that have supported the Oates Institute through the years. We are especially grateful for those who continue to support the Institute through their ongoing gifts. These contributions weave a fabric about us that sustains and enriches the programs and services we offer professional and lay caregivers.
Join us TODAY in an ongoing commitment to holistic care and to providing educational resources for chaplains, counselors, pastors, social workers, and congregational leaders.
We invite your support in several ways:
A one time contribution in support of educational programming and the library fund:
A brick contribution to the new Center for Oates Studies, featuring many unique resources from 20 years of programming and special conferences and events:
Become a Friend of the Library through a monthly contribution that supports continuing to add resources to the Center for Oates Studies as well as maintaining its place as a central part of the Oates Institute campus.
A small monthly contribution (the Two Lattes Club) in support of the Oates Journal and other publications.
Checks may be mailed to the Wayne Oates Institute, 1733 Bardstown Road, Louiville, Kentucky 40205. Or call the office at 502.459.2370 for more information or assistance.
Chris Hammon Memorials
Our friend, leader, and colleague, Christopher Hammon, slipped peacefully away in his home held by his loving wife, Annie, on Sunday afternoon, May 18. Chris fought the good fight and lived his way until the end.
Our anticipatory grief of his impending death did not prepare us for our deep sense of loss.
The current plan for the memorial service is for May 31st at 2:00 EDT in the Fellowship Hall at Crescent Hill Baptist Church in Louisville, Kentucky.
Annie says, "We will celebrate and memorialize as he wished ... [with] balloons, crayons, music, and stories. I told him that we would need space for tears, but his response was that if the stories were about him, we would have to laugh." Annie added, "if you want to honor [Chris]'s name and legacy, his passion, The Wayne Oates Institute here in Louisville is a place to start."
Please join us as we celebrate the life and witness of Christopher Hammon over the next few weeks.
Chris' family has asked that anyone wishing to give a memorial gift in his honor make a donation to the Oates Institute. Contributions will be used to build the Chris Hammon Continuous Learning Center. It will house the Oates Instittute classrooms.
