What Will the Future Story of the Wayne Oates Institute Look Like?
This is the question that the Oates Institute Board will be discussing this Saturday in our planning retreat. Our Executive Director Chris Hammon has been asking us to answer this question for years. In his honor, it is time to create a compelling vision that we can all embrace.
Did you notice, I said “we all”?
Chris has carried the vision for the Institute and done an outstanding job! But now it is time to collaboratively answer the question: what do we want the Wayne Oates Institute to look like in one year? Five years? Beyond?

Update from the Acting Director
The phrase "Life happens" has taken on new meaning around the Oates Institute in the last few days. Chris Hammon, our Executive Director, has taken a medical leave because of his battle with cancer, Michael Purintun has stepped up to learn programs and applications, our website was hacked, the board decided to postpone the online conference, the board has instituted an emergency leadership plan, I was asked to serve as acting director, and the weather continues to be unseasonably cold.

Cliff Notes on Healthful Humor Vol. Two
Welcome back to Cliff Notes on Healthful Humor.
Today I want to alert you to the single greatest stumbling block that keeps us from drawing on humor's full array of benefits for ourselves and those we care about—we think we have to be laughing to capture and enjoy humor's benefits.
We've all heard the phrase "Laughter is good medicine." Usually, it refers to a verse from the Bible, Proverbs 17:22.

Cliff Notes on Healthful Humor from The Laugh Doctor
Welcome to the first installment of Cliff Notes on Healthful Humor. In this series of short articles I will be sharing practical information from my decades of experience as the Laugh Doctor, helping others and myself to rediscover the healing power of humor. My intention is that together we might shed some light on what constitutes healthful humor and then learn how you and I can responsibly draw upon its positive energy in our work as caregivers, both for our own good as well as the benefit of those we serve. If this proves valuable, Cliff Notes on Healthful Humor could become a regular feature of our CNN Newsletter.
