The Wayne E. Oates Institute currently offers two opportunities for certificate level continuing professional education. These certificates are awarded for the successful completion of specified courses of study; one in the area of Health Ministries and the other in the area of Pastoral Care.

Learning Approach

    The Health Ministries Certificate Program offered by the Wayne E. Oates Institute is for anyone who senses a call to Health Ministries. The program is designed to empower, equip, and encourage participants and utilizes an approach that is convenient for busy individuals who need to remain involved in their family lives and their work. The Institute offers a blended approach that combines a traditional face-to-face study environment (a 36 hour retreat) with Internet study accessible from any computer. It is a dynamic interactive process that connects participants, faculty, facilitators, and resources.

Pauline Oates Pastoral Care
Specialist Certificate

In Collaboration with the American Association of Pastoral Counselors

    The Pauline Oates Pastoral Care Specialist Certificate (PCS) offered by the Wayne E. Oates Institute provides training in brief, supportive pastoral care and counseling. It is a course of study developed for clergy and laity who are responsible for meeting pastoral care needs within their congregations. By utilizing the resources of a participant’s personal faith tradition and current theoretical understandings, this program is designed to strengthen the individual’s pastoral identity and to enhance his or her pastoral care skills.
