Pastoral Care Specialist Certificate

—Seminar Participant

Application

To begin in September 2008, submit application by August 1

The WEOI Pastoral Care Specialist (PCS) certificate program is an intense program that requires significant commitment on the part of the participant.  The course is interactive and requires the capacity for self-reflection and theological reflection.  The peer group experience is an important part of the Connected Learning process.  To maintain a safe space for the learning experience all participants must sign a confidentiality statement and maintain confidentiality throughout the certificate program.

Participants in this program need to have the educational background or life experience that enables them to grasp the basic concepts of Pastoral Care, to articulate their feelings and experiences, and to put Pastoral Care concepts into practice.

Participation in this program requires:

  1. The applicant’s involvement in a designated pastoral care ministry. (In a paid or volunteer position.)

  2. The applicant to be endorsed by the religious community or organization they serve.

  3. The applicant’s willingness to covenant with the other program participants to maintain confidentiality, give support, and consistently participate in the seminars and practicum.

Application to participate in the Online Pastoral Care Specialist Certificate Program is a two stage process:

  1. Application for Acceptance in to the program
  2. Application (registration) for a spot in a specific peer group

To Apply for Acceptance in the Online Pastoral Care Specialist Certificate Program at the Wayne E. Oates Institute, please submit the following:

    1. The Application Form.

    7. A $35 nonrefundable deposit payable to the Wayne E. Oates Institute (If the applicant enters the program this will be applied to the tuition cost.)

    1. PCS Peer Group Registration Form.
    2. A signed copy of the Pastoral Care Specialist Group Covenant.

Please Note:  Persons who fulfill the participation requirements to complete this program receive a certificate of completion in this course of study, which satisfies the small group consultation requirement for membership in the American Association of Pastoral Counselors at the level of Pastoral Care Specialist.  The completion of this program, however, does not represent certification as a pastoral counselor.
