Children at Risk for Violence after Loss --
Facilitator: Dick Gilbert, Ph.D., BCC. / 12.0 contact hours

The recognition that children grieve is a fact that society and religious communities often overlook or avoid. Behaviors associated with unmet needs of grieving children can become inappropriate and even dangerous. Through presentations and an interdisciplinary dialogue, seminar participants will explore definitions, warning signs, and strategies for prevention and response.

Fighting the Tiger: The Psychological and
Spiritual Effects of Traumatic Stress

12.0 contact hours / Facilitator: David Fair, D.Min., B.C.E.T.S.

Modern day technology has placed wars, hurricanes, and sexual assaults in our living rooms. What used to be the unthinkable happens on a daily basis, leaving a path of psychological and spiritual trauma in its wake.   Clergy members must deal with these traumas spilling over into church, hospital, and counseling settings. In this seminar experts in the areas of trauma stemming from natural disaster, sexual assault, and military deployment, guide ministers through a process of becoming aware of traumatic stress and helping to facilitate the emotional and spiritual healing.

Ministry to an Aging Society
12.0 contact hours / Facilitator: Martha Rogers, M.Div.

Whether in the congregational, healthcare, or community setting, numerous aging issues that need to be proactively addressed are going unconsidered. In addition, the challenges are exacerbated by a societal ambivalence that in general ignores some of the deeper issues of self-esteem, meaning, and sense of purpose experienced in the aging process. The primary goal for this seminar is to provide a constructive and integrated format for addressing some of the spiritual, mental, and physical health issues of Senior Adults as they encounter new challenges in the aging process.
