Dreams,
Journals, and Spirituality --
Presenter:
Alan Filippi, M.Div., BCC. / 12.0
contact hours
Dreams
reveal so much to us if we
give them a chance. They reveal
the forgotten depths of the
human being and even give us
glimpses of a spiritual world
that surrounds one as totally
as the physical one.
We
will playfully interact with
the dream and one another through
the three weeks and hopefully
have stimulated you to work with
the dream further after this
module has ended. They may raise
some initial questions at the
outset and that is also welcomed.

Modern
day technology has placed wars,
hurricanes, and sexual assaults
in our living rooms. What used
to be the unthinkable happens
on a daily basis, leaving a path
of psychological and spiritual
trauma in its wake. Clergy
members must deal with these
traumas spilling over into church,
hospital, and counseling settings.
In this seminar experts in the
areas of trauma stemming from
natural disaster, sexual assault,
and military deployment, guide
ministers through a process of
becoming aware of traumatic stress
and helping to facilitate the
emotional and spiritual healing.

Finding
God in the Multiplex: A
Lenten Film Festival --
Presenter:
Daniel Kroger, D.Min.
/ 12.0
contact hours
All
of us have probably had
the experience of going to
a movie at the local multiplex
drawn by the review in the
local paper which mentioned
something of interest. We
go and are suddenly struck
by either the whole movie
or perhaps just a scene. This
three week seminar
is an online film festival
where participants
will
be
watching
three films, which may
either
be rented or purchased,
and discussing them through
an email discussion group
along with presentations
on the films.

Finding
Hope
When
There
Is No
Cure
Facilitator:
TBA / 12.0
contact
hours
How
do we help
patients,
clients,
parishioners,
or family
members
find and
sustain
hope when
they encounter
challenges
such as
the diagnosis
of terminal
cancer,
an accident
resulting
in major
trauma,
or a lifestyle
altering
chronic
illness?
What is
hope and
how can
it transcend
what may
be a shallow
optimism?
How can
one experience
healing
that does
not include
curing?
How can
we discover
our personal
narratives
of hope
and in
so doing
help others
discover
theirs?

The
Spiritual

Assessment
Process
is
an
advanced

to
spiritual
assessment
in
medical

The

of
the
SNAP
system
will
require
students
to
be
aware
of
the
basic
formats
of
the
spiritual
screen,
spiritual
history,
and
spiritual
assessment.
With
the
understanding
of
basic
concepts
SNAP

allow
the

to
do
basic
screens
and
as
the
user's
proficiency
with
the

becomes
more
comfortable,
progress

Spirituality
and Mental Illness
Facilitator:
Rose Ann Briotte, M.Div. / 12.0
contact hours
One
in five people in the United
States have or will have mental
illness sometime in their life.
More than five million people
in the United States alone suffer
from serious chronic mental illness.
Through
an interdisciplinary approach
integrating spirituality and
mental health, this seminar will
enable professional care givers
from the religious, medical,
therapeutic, and social work
communities to better recognize
and work with the diverse needs
of those who suffer from mental
illness and the needs of those
who are close to them. Reflective
dialogue will be facilitated
by a mental health chaplain.

When
Children Suffer:
Care for Children and Families
Experiencing Violence
Presenter:
Kathy Manis Findley, M.Div. / 12.0
contact hours
"Examination,
inquiry, and analysis reveal that
the depth of the injury to the
psyche of a survivor of intimate
violence rests squarely on relationship," wrote
Kathy Manis Findley, director of
Safe Places. She goes on
to explain, "When relationship
is violated, a person is left vulnerable
and susceptible to the onslaught
of physical and mental illness
and the child experiences developmental
challenges." Early
recognition of the violence expands
a child's safety net and enables
intervention that may prevent more
devastating consequences.
