Care for Families Experiencing Domestic Violence
12.0 contact hours / Facilitator: Kathy Manis Findley

"Examination, inquiry and analysis will reveal that the depth of the injury to the psyche of a survivor of intimate violence rests squarely on relationship," wrote Kathy Manis Findley. "When relationship is violated and sacrament is dishonored, a person is left vulnerable and susceptible to the onslaught of illness, physical illness and mental illness." Through peer group dialogue around 3 presentations using email over 3 weeks, this seminar engages participants in exploring the ramifications of domestic violence and ways of ministry with persons who have experienced it.

Finding Hope When There Is No Cure
12.0 contact hours / Facilitator: Doug Kellough, D.Min.

How do we help patients, clients, parishioners, or family members find and sustain hope when they encounter challenges such as the diagnosis of terminal cancer, an accident resulting in major trauma, or a lifestyle altering chronic illness? What is hope and how can it transcend what may be a shallow optimism? How can one experience healing that does not include curing? How can we discover our personal narratives of hope and in so doing help others discover theirs?

Healing Power of Stories -- Two Parts
Part One: January 9-27 / Part Two: February 6-24
24.0 contact hours / Facilitator: Canon Marlin Whitmer

This online seminar led by the Rev. Canon Marlin Whitmer will take the stories you hear as a basis for reflecting on metaphors and metaphorical patterns. Also through the metaphors and metaphorical patterns we will make connections with Biblical stories as well as our own stories. This on-going learning experience will relate these fundamentals of language and Word to pastoral care and health care. Both are grounded on listening, language, and metaphor as health care moves out into the community with chronic illness overshadowing acute care.

Resolving Conflict through Emotional Intelligence
Two Parts -- Part One: January 9-27 / Part Two: February 6-24

24.0 contact hours / Facilitator: Jim Mahanes, MSSW

It is not whether we have conflict in our lives; it is how we understand it and what we do with that conflict that makes the difference," says Jim Mahanes of the Human Development Foundation.

What do we do with conflict…? By most standards of feedback, we handle it poorly. This seminar is designed to enable participants to understand the connection between Emotional Intelligence and conflict, and then to learn how to work with Emotional Intelligence to manage and resolve conflict. It is a six week seminar that combines presentations, case studies, and reflective dialogue to develop an understanding of the relationship between Emotional Intelligence and conflict.
