Care
of Self: Nurturing Silence and Sabbath
Facilitator:
TBA / 12.0
contact hours
In
the process of giving care to others,
care givers often overlook their own
practice of self-care. Through peer
dialogue around three presentations,
this seminar provides participants
an opportunity to reflect on their
own care regarding rest and personal
renewal while learning to observe the
sacrament of the present moment and
affirm the gift and necessity of rest.

Presenter: Patricia
Pickett, D.Min. /

allowing them to be who they are
in the moment? This three week seminar
presented by Dr. Patricia Pickett
and Samuel Johnson will
engage participants in working through
the arts and spirituality, which
are the last things to go when someone
begins to slip through knowing.

Encountering
Depression and Anxiety in Ministry
Presenter:
Vicki
Hollon, D.Min. /
12.0 contact hours
Religious
leaders are not immune to depression
and anxiety; however, it may
be more difficult for religious
leaders to admit to themselves
or others that they suffer
from either. This seminar
is not only for the direct
benefit of the religious leaders,
it is also for those they serve. It
is designed to help ministers
recognize symptoms of clinical
depression and anxiety in order
to more wisely give care to
others and make appropriate
referrals as needed.

Finding
God in the Multiplex: Developing
a Lenten Film Series --
Presenter: Daniel
Kroger, D.Min. / 12.0
contact hours
All of us
have probably had the experience
of going to a movie at the local
multiplex drawn by the review in
the local paper which mentioned
something of interest. We
go and are suddenly struck by either
the whole movie or perhaps just
a scene. During
this three week seminar participants will be watching three
films, which may either be rented or purchased, and discussing
them along with presentations on developing a Faith in
Film festival through an email discussion group.

Ministry
in the Postmodern Matrix
Presenters: Dave Benson, D.Min. and Chris Hammon, D.Min. / 12.0 contact hours
This
seminar is a three
week collaborative
journey combining film,
text, and dialogue
to explore the whirlwind
of transition and change
taking place in our
culture and our collective
perceptions, understandings,
and experiences of
the world around us.
It is an opportunity
to gather in dialogue
to reflect on this
encounter with postmodernity
in light of our own
perspective and experience
and to ponder the questions
of what this mean for
ministry in our various
contexts.

Resolving
Conflict through Emotional Intelligence
January 7-February 15 -- 6 week seminar
Presenter:
Jim Mahanes, MSSW / 24.0
contact hours
It
is not whether we have conflict in our lives;
it is how we understand it and what we do with
that conflict that makes the difference," says
Jim Mahanes of the Human Development Foundation.
What
do we do with conflict
? By most standards
of feedback, we handle it poorly. This seminar
is designed to enable participants to understand
the connection between Emotional Intelligence
and conflict, and then to learn how to work
with Emotional Intelligence to manage and resolve
conflict. It is
a six week seminar that combines presentations,
case studies, and reflective dialogue to develop
an understanding of the relationship between
Emotional Intelligence and conflict.
Substance
Abuse and the Family:
Defining the Role of the Faith Community
Facilitator: John Bell /
12.0 contact hours
Recognizing that clergy
and other pastoral ministers have an array of opportunities
to address problems of alcohol and drug dependence based on
their positions, an expert panel on seminary education was
convened by SAMHSA and the American Association of Pastoral
Counselors. The panel recommended the development of a set
of core competencies to address the basic knowledge and skills
clergy need to help addicted individuals and their family members.
